When purchasing a Shampoo and Conditioner remember to always get one without sulfate...that sulfate is known to strip the hair from natural oils. The natural oils are very important to prevent split ends and breakages. I always buy more conditioner than I do shampoo because I co-wash weekly and shampoo monthly. Hint: If you take care of your hair correctly, you will barely have to cut it!
Oil is very important!!!! I am not all into making my own oils and creams so I just purchase oil from Sally's beauty supply. I'm so lazy! One day I will start. lol. Oil hair daily is very important. What I do is when I step out the shower I just oil my body including my hair. The oil is a body and hair oil so it goes everywhere! Hint: I also use it to remove makeup! Olive oil is a good makeup remover.
A lot of natural girls are not a fan of gel, but I am!...I like for my edges to be smooth. I mostly use gel when I'm pull my hair back in a clip or up in a bun. I don't think gel is that bad as long as you don't use it to death!
Natural hair loves WATER!!! I always keep a water bottle and mist my hair with water daily. The moisture is great and keeps the hair from drying which cause breakage.
Hair Products that I use:
Trader Joe's Shampoo and Conditioner $2.50/bottle
Curls Unleashed $14.00
Hair and Body oil from Sally's Hair Supply $6.00
clear Eco styling Gel
Nice read Alecia! I too use trader joes shampoo and conditioner. I use the tea tree tingle shampoo and conditioner. They are very reasonable (3.99 a bottle)! Normally I shampoo my hair twice a month and co-wash weekly. Since the cold weather is so harsh on our hair, I shampoo twice a month and I deep condition weekly. The day before I shampoo, I completely saturate my hair with pure unrefined coconut oil and I bun it. Unlike some other oils, coconut oil saturates your hair and works from the inside out. This routine gives your hair and extreme boost of moisture. I just started doing this last month and I am in LOVE with the results. You will see and feel them immediately if done correctly. As a deep conditioner, I use the crème of nature intense moisturizing deep conditioning (with argon oil) formula which makes the detangling process very easy. Once my hair is cleaned (or co-washed) I use a crème of nature leave in (rosemary and lemongrass) followed by some olive oil or some hair oil to seal my hair with then I proceed with a protective style for the week. This way, I’m only handling my hair once a week unless I’m spritzing it with water or moisturizer during the week. I try to be creative in my protective style but no matter what it is, I make sure I’m not constantly pulling or tugging at my hair. Can’t forget to wrap with your satin scarf at night. I sleep on a satin pillow case as well just in case that scarf comes off…lol. This has helped me retain length and strength to my hair. I also LOOOOVE the curls unleashed product, mainly because it holds my curls throughout the week and it does not make my hair crunchy! I hope this helps someone in their haircare journey.
ReplyDeleteThank you Erin for sharing! You really have some good tips! Yeah I like the creme of nature leave in also! And I think I'm going to start saturating the hair before a shampoo! Good idea! Stay tune, I'm going to talk about a homemade deep conditioner I do!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I can't wait to hear! Thanks!
DeleteHi Alecia! I was wondering how often i should trim my hair while i transition. I don't have any breakage or anything right now but i have always trimmed every 3-4 months. Do i need to do it more often now that I am transitioning?
ReplyDeleteWell if you don't need to do it, then don't do it... unless you just want to cut out the relaxer little by little. Which may be a good idea if you are trying to be all natural. I wish I would have taken that approach. I have let my hair grow so long, that I'm afraid to cut unless I have too. lol. One day I will...The hair looks better anyways when you cut out the relaxed ends. You don't have to worry about blending with curling the ends like I do. Let me know what you end up doing. You make give me some courage! lol
